Menobelly,” “hot flash brigade,” “internal furnace,” “brain fog,” and “meno-rage” are a few of the common slang terms used to describe symptoms experienced by women during the menopause transition. Menopause itself is often referred to as “the change,” and women who have completed this phase of life are labelled “over the hill”
The derogatory language surrounding menopause provides insight into the physical and emotional hardships women experience during this life stage. Fluctuating hormonal levels, changing menstrual patterns, hot flashes, mood swings, and changes in body composition can each increase stress levels.
When combined with the demands of balancing work and home responsibilities, along with societal pressures for women to fulfill multiple roles, these symptoms significantly contribute to the overall stress experienced during the menopause transition.
